Hello dearest Aquileana! As always I really love the paintings you find to illustrate your posts, oh and by the way, the marriage of Peleus and Thetis was important for one other great reason related to the Trojan War — they are the mother and father of Achilles!
Have a great weekend, Dearheart, and congrats and thanks for the award!!! I do not remember this story. Aquileana, congratulations on all the awards!!!! That is first. Second this post is so awesome as is every single one of your posts. And third, it was wonderful to see you at Petals. I have been painting in my spare time this week, so have not been on WP much at all… Sending you a Hug back with much love xox Sue. Hope you are doing well honey… Thanks for sharing your clever thoughts here … And also for understanding the whole Award Issue…. Congrats for your awards and thanks for the nomination for the Angel Award Aquileana! Here again is metamorphosis seen as punishment and multiple attempts for the subjugations of the wild spirit in Atalanta. This myth makes me think that there was already a strict code of conduct in place and laws governing these characters.
So these Greek myths sure have similarities with other writings as well. The shadow exists as part of the unconscious mind and is composed of repressed ideas, weaknesses, desires, and instincts. This archetype is often described as the darker side of the psyche, representing wildness, chaos and the unknown Atalanta. Jung thought that the shadow could appear in dreams or visions and could take a variety of forms. It could appear as a snake or a monster. In their present form they are variants of archetypal ideas created by consciously applying and adapting these ideas to reality.
For it is the function of consciousness, not only to recognize and assimilate the external world through the gateway of the senses, but to translate into visible reality the world within us. Indeed, there are many layers to discover here and the way characters react here can be easily related to patterns of behaviours and codes of conduct that might find their roots in the darker unconscious levels,.
Talent, too, is ornament, and ornament, too, is a hiding place. This applies to mortals however, individuation is not an issue for Gods nor Goddesses since time is not an issue for them. As to the individuation process, it is an interesting topic and I enjoyed reading your explanations… It reminded me of some philosophers such as Heidegger… The idea of disintegration of the person might be tied to the empirical expression of the main and only Being… Of course Heidegger has considered that this process implied denigration of the Being… The Dasein tend to be just a fake expression of it, moving further away from the pure essence as Plato would consider it: incorruptible, perfect, eternal….
Thank you very much honey for taking time to read and bringing me your meaningful insights on this subject…. Alas we have it again — the story of the apple and its symbolism through the ages and mythology.
Thank you Very much DG… Really glad to read your words here. Kaye pokercubster June 17, Love to read your well-organized posts and go through the myths I was brought up.
When I was a child I simply found them captivating and they intensely triggered my imagination to run wild. Later on,when we were taught the Greek myths at school,we tried to find the timeless morals under the adventurous surface of the plots and analyse the characters in depth in order to do psychological research.
Is hippomenes a God? Why was Atalanta turned into a lion? Zeus -or his mother- Rhea turned Atalanta and Hippomenes into lions after they had sex together in one of his temples. Other accounts say that Aphrodite changed them into lions because they did not give her proper honor.
What becomes of Atalanta and her husband? Answer: After the birth of their son, Atalanta and her husband were transformed into lions, because it was believed that they either insulted Zeus or Aphrodite.
Who managed to win Atlanta by dropping three golden apples? What does the name Atalanta mean? Meanings and history of the name Atalanta. Which is the best textual evidence of Atalanta love for hippomenes? The best textual evidence of Atalanta's love for Hippomenes would be: She allows him to win, so that he doesn't lose his life. What is Hercules the Greek god of? He was the Roman equivalent of the Greek divine hero Heracles, who was the son of Zeus Roman equivalent Jupiter and the mortal Alcmene.
What does Atlanta mean in Greek? Origin of the name Atlanta: A cognate of Atalante, a name from Greek mythology which is of uncertain derivation. Though she does her best to stay a virgin, Atalanta is eventually forced to marry a sneaky dude named Hippomenes who beats her in a footrace.
Hippomenes throws golden apples, which he got from Aphrodite , behind him as he runs. For some reason, Atalanta can't help but stop and pick them up, so she ends up having to marry the dude. Hippomenes forgets to thank Aphrodite, though, and she inflicts a serious case of lust on him when he and Atalanta are in a temple of Zeus or the Cybele. The "love birds" are punished for the ensuing inappropriate behavior by being turned into lions.
Parents Home Homeschool College Resources. Study Guide. Previous Next. The Less Short Story Atalanta 's story starts off as kind of a bummer. When she's born, her dad, King Iasus of Arcadia, is ticked that she isn't a boy.
So, the dude does what any unreasonable dad would do: he abandons his infant daughter in the woods. See, we told you it was a bummer. Don't get too stressed out for Atalanta. Lucky for her the wilderness of Arcadia is also the home of a she-bear with extreme maternal instincts. Instead of chowing down on little baby Atalanta when she finds her, the she-bear lets the human girl suckle. Mm, bear milk. Later on, some friendly hunters find Atalanta and raise her to be an awesome huntress.
This is kind of crazy, because usually women don't hunt at all. Young Atalanta becomes a follower of Artemis, the virgin goddess of the hunt, and the young huntress fights pretty hard to protect her virginity. When two centaurs bust into a grove and try to have their horsey way with her, she kills them both with her arrows. Girl power is strong with this one.
